Should You Buy a Bentley Bentayga? Let’s Find Out.

2022 Bentley Bentayga Review, Pricing, and Specs

The Bentley Bentayga was launched back in late 2015, and it quickly became the marques best-selling car. The Bentayga was Bentley’s first-ever SUV and it created many mixed reactions. Some people think that the Bentayga is a fantastic car and makes a whole lot of sense. It was well-built, it had a fantastic interior and it allowed those with extra money to upgrade from their normal Range Rover into something posher. Something that would make them feel more special.

Other people though think that the Bentayga is hideous. It’s tasteless and horrible in every single way. A leather-lined Audi Q7 as some people call it. Exterior-wise, it doesn’t look all that at all in my opinion though the facelift model isn’t too bad. It is quite muscular, and the side profile of this car is very interesting indeed.

The Bentayga was also the first Bentley to be fitted with a diesel engine. A diesel did you say? Yep, a diesel something which is far from luxurious. However, unlike other diesel engines, this one doesn’t clatter so much. Furthermore, the sound-proofing inside is brilliant so all the excess noise that you do get from the diesel unit is eliminated.

They are three other engines to choose from, and they are all petrol. We will dive into them later on. All engines are very powerful and most of them aren’t too expensive to maintain. Furthermore, all engines are very smooth and come from other Bentley models.

So should you buy one? Let’s find out.

It’s a Huge Show Off Car.

2021 Bentley Bentayga: The Luxury SUV's Best Feature Is Hidden

The Bentayga isn’t a subtle car whatsoever. As mentioned earlier, the looks are controversial. However, I think we can all agree that this car is not something that is “subtle.” The grille is huge and intimidating, the wheels are huge and the shape is very bulky. Of course, some specifications are more subtle than others however, this isn’t a common car in most areas therefore it stands out more. Some Bentayga models are a lot more vulgar than others. If we go to a place like Cheshire where all the footballers live, you will see many Bentaygas in horrible tasteless specifications.

There are many specifications for you to choose from. In all honesty, the list is endless since Bentley can paint your Bentayga in any color you like. The alloy specifications are also very vast. You can have some small alloys that really do not suit the car whatsoever or some huge alloys that make you look like P Diddy.

The facelift Bentayga includes a few more features that do make the car stand out even more. The trunk lid includes oval taillights that look quite sophisticated. The front of the car though has a wider grille which is more flat and boxy. It is though in all honesty far more classy than the pre-facelift car.

There are many body kits for this car. Urban has done one, Mansory has done one, Kahn has done one and so has Hammann. Most are quite cool but some are completely tasteless.

It’s Very Fast.

Bentley Bentayga S review: Crewe's sportiest SUV yet Reviews 2022 | Top Gear

via: topgear.com

The Bentayga is an incredibly fast car. The least powerful engine was the 429hp unit with 664 lb-ft of torque which is ludicrous. That unit is the diesel engine which is a V8 twin-turbo unit from the Audi SQ7. This engine though was only offered for a few years before being axed.

The next most powerful engine is the hybrid twin-turbo V6 unit with 443hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. It’s not the best engine choice whatsoever, since it isn’t all that economical. Plus the range of the hybrid model is pretty pathetic. It’s a 3-liter unit and it isn’t the best. The 2.9 unit used in the Flying Spur is far superior and I do suspect that future Bentayga hybrid models will use this engine.

Then there is the twin-turbo 4.0 V8 with 542hp and 568 lb-ft of torque. That is a lot of power, and currently, it is the base engine for the Bentayga. It’s a ridiculously good-sounding engine. It sounds absolutely filthy, though it can be refined if you drive the car sensibly.

The top engine is the W12 6 liter twin-turbo unit which is absolutely insane. In my opinion, this engine is somewhat unnecessary. Power-wise, it has 600hp and 664 lb-ft of torque which is absolutely wild. The 0-60 is sub 4 seconds, and when this car was launched the Bentayga was the fastest SUV in the world.

In my opinion, the petrol V8 is the one to get. It’s very fun, very smooth and it has a lot of power. The W12 is just too powerful though it is very smooth. The hybrid unit doesn’t work well and a diesel Bentley doesn’t sound too posh at all.

It’s Very Luxurious.

The Bentayga is a very luxurious car. Inside, the build quality is fantastic. The knurling on the dials is lovely, and everything feels so solid. The air vents feel so luxurious and they make a nice clicking sound when you use them. The leather is amazing and the whole car is hand-built so you feel extra special when you sit inside this thing.

The facelift Bentayga has an even better interior since it has new technology, new air vents, and a slightly different interior design. Everything looks so fancy.

The rear seats are very nice. You can have a 4 seat, 5 seats, or 7 seat specification. The 7 seat model isn’t very practical though I don’t know of any 7-seat car that is as luxurious as the Bentayga. Even the new Range Rover isn’t as luxurious. the 4-seat model is the most luxurious specification and it truly feels like a private jet.

This car is a proper GT. It may not look like your typical GT car but it’s fast, comfortable, and definitely practical. It isn’t as practical as a Range Rover, neither is it as well off-road. However, overall this car is genuinely perfect for anybody who wants something that is fast, luxurious, and definitely trendy. If you’re looking for an SUV that is different from the norm, then this is the one for you.
