What more do you want from a car? It is slow, yes but hey speed limits exist don’t they? So what’s the point of going fast?

The Geo metro started out life in 1989, as a rebadged Suzuki Swift. It was pretty terrible but very reliable and very cheap. Built-in Japan, it was the economy car GM hoped would change their reputation from being a brand that made unreliable junk to a brand that made reliable junk. Even some car lovers use a Metro as a daily driver, simply because it is cheap. Everyone loves something that is cheap and good value for money. Regardless of whether it’s a car, phone, etc. The Geo Metro was made to take you from point A to Point B that’s it. However, this is something that many want so it sure was successful.
But why should you buy a Geo Metro nowadays? Electric cars are becoming more affordable plus there are so many other better cars that offer a better MPG than the Metro that are pretty cheap. Not as cheap as the Metro, but certainly affordable.

The Geo Metro Shows Why Simplicity is King
The Geo Metro is quite possibly one of the most simple cars ever made. It hasn’t got any fancy electronics, exotic materials, powerful engines, etc. It’s a very basic car which can be repaired quite easily in someone’s front yard if need be. Spares are at a huge surplus too, so you won’t have to pay top-dollar for repairs, etc.
Nowadays, a properly economical car costs a lot of money in comparison. The new Chevrolet Spark costs so much more, but for what? It’s still an economy box that isn’t built very well at all. The Geo Metro pretty much does the same job as the Spark for so much less. Sure, it’s far less safe of course since it was made at a time where cars were just no way near as safe as they are today.
A new Spark does an MPG of 29 in the city, 38 highway which is a combined of around 33 mpg. The 1989 Geo Metro does an MPG of 43 in the city and 52 highway. That’s a combined MPG of 47, and that’s really high. It was by far the most economical car of the time, and even today it’s pretty good. You can see why so many people love the Geo Metro nowadays.
The Metro is built heavily on the cheap. It’s full of plastic and the metal used on the car is just so thin. The engine is pretty basic, with simple parts and you don’t really have to care about scratching the paint, scuffing the bumpers, etc. It’s a car which you can leave in the rougher parts of town and not worry about it at all. It’s a car which you don’t care about curbing the alloys, etc.
The Geo Metro Is The True People’s Car of America
This may sound way over the top, but the Geo Metro is the true people’s car of America. You can get one now for under $1000 and it will serve you for years and years. Sure. it isn’t the best-looking car by any means but it will get you from A to B comfortably. The trunk is decently sized, plus you can always get a sedan model which is better for families.
Unfortunately, the Geo Metro is just too slow. It feels like walking is faster than this car and the reason why is because all of the engines are small and puny. It is a weak car, and on the highway it is horrible. It’s just too slow. Nevertheless, it’s liveable and if you don’t care about going fast or don’t like going fast, then why would you care?
The Geo Metro is a perfect car for all ages. It’s very cheap to buy and insure. In a world like this too with a gas crisis, this car is perfect since it’s so cheap on gas and it literally sips fuel. In fact, I believe that some people actually forget to fuel this car up since you don’t have to do it at all very often.
A Geo Metro is a car that is very reliable and it will never leave you, unlike your partner or friends. It’s loyal and it’s trustworthy. This is an American car made by the Japanese, and it’s brilliant. Some call it the nighties Yugo, but it seriously solved a purpose and it is by far one of the best cars GM has ever made.
Would We Buy One?
Yes, we would buy a Geo Metro. It is certainly worth the tiny asking price and it offers so much value for money. These things are everywhere, and you can really get a good deal on one on sites like Craigslist, etc. It’s small, fun and economical. What more do you want from a car?
Of course, it does look pretty embarrassing, but who cares? It’s a simple car to get you from A to B, and if you have a very low budget for a car you should get a Geo Metro immediately since it is such good value for money.
