Is the Tesla Cybertruck Worth It?

In 2019 Tesla unveiled the craziest-looking truck of all time called the Cybertruck. It was instantly nicknamed a “house on wheels” due to its weird sloping box design. The Cybertruck is here to rival the Ford F150 and Chevrolet Silverado, two of the best selling vehicles in the USA and two trucks that have dominated the markets for years. Yet with increasing gas prices, taxes, etc the F150 and Silverado fail right here as they both are only offered with gas-guzzling big engines.

The Cybertruck however, is a lot cheaper to run considering it won’t be affected by any gas prices whatsoever. In states like California where big gas-guzzling cars are taxed heavily, Cybertruck truly is the perfect purchase since it is just as big as the top-selling trucks and more economical. Yet in some aspects, the Cybertruck does seem more of a gimmick than an actual truck.

Following the Footsteps of Henry Ford

You can have your Cybertruck in any color, as long as it is in stainless steel. Similar to Henry Ford with his Model T, as that was only available in black. Why is the Cybertruck only available in stainless steel? Simply because it is cheaper and stronger which makes it so much more competitive against its competitors. When asked about the Cybertruck color options, Tesla Ceo Elon Musk stated “you will be able to wrap it [the Cybertruck] in any color or pattern” according to Inverse

The Cybertruck is a tough car, which is perfect for the outdoors or so, as no need to worry about scratches. The last stainless-steel car though was the DeLorean and how well did that go? It is heavy and in all honesty, will the batteries be able to cope with such a car for the many years to come? Or will there be reliability issues?

Is It Just a Rich Mans Toy Though?

The Cybertruck may be popular amongst celebrities but its stats are crazy. The standard single-motor model can tow up to 7500 pounds and the tri-motor model pulls almost double that with a 0-60 of 2.9 sec. It is stupidly quick, in fact, faster than most supercars. Not even top Silverado, Ram, or F/series models can compete with the Cybertruck performance.

Its body is also very strong considering it is made from cold-rolled steel in a monocoque form. Expect this then to be an absolute tank. Yet this house on wheels still doubts many people. Can it really do the same as what GM does, what Ford does, and what Dodge does with their trucks? Is it really as versatile as what the big-boys have to offer?

The Cybertruck is essentially a computer on wheels. Are the batteries strong enough physically to be subjected to off-roading, constant heavy-hauling, and the like? Most people who buy trucks don’t buy them for their looks, but rather what they are capable of. People buy trucks as they have a need. Whether it’s for work, they live in the wild, or so forth. Trucks are utility vehicles, and in some areas, the Cybertruck doesn’t fit into that category as it is so outlandish.

It is stronger than other trucks, but it up until now it has never been tested in the real world. All of these claims by Tesla that it is a proper truck have not been proven in the real world yet against other popular trucks. By all means, the Cybertuck may just be a brilliant truck but it may just also be a “lifestyle” vehicle rather than something people actually use for work.

More Performance than a Sportscar, With Equally Crazy Looks

It is crazy to think that this is a truck that can outperform most supercars in terms of acceleration. It weighs between 5000 to 6000 pounds depending on the model, yet the top tri-motor car promises a 0-60 of 2.9 seconds. Is this really needed though? It sure is fun, and a huge selling point for this car. It is also quite aerodynamic, lacking wing-mirrors to reduce the amount of drag created. Similar to what Audi have done then with their e-Tron models.

This has been done mainly to maximize range. On the singular motor, it is 250 miles while on the tri-motor it is 500 miles. That is pretty insane then, however, the range will decrease as the battery starts to age and the tri-motor models will start to become very costly to repair considering one battery is extremely expensive to replace anyways. Though the range is really good and it definitely targets combustion-engine trucks a lot more considering the range between the Cybertruck and other trucks is very similar.

The Cybertruck looks insane. The most futuristic truck out there, it will one hundred percent break necks. It is crazy and related to the old Hummer H1 of the 1990s, the sheer size and looks create a presence like none other. The stainless steel body is also really cool as it makes the car feel as if it is a spaceship. Is this truck from out of space? We wouldn’t be surprised if it really is!

Day-to-Day is it Cheaper to Run?

via: deezen.com

Let’s be honest here. The days of the combustion-powered car is limited. California wants to stop all combustion-car sales by 2035, and it is likely other states will follow suit. Furthermore, depending on whoever is voted into the presidency, that will also affect the days of the combustion-powered car. The Cybertruck potentially has tax-credits in some states and it is also a lot cheaper to run considering it only needs to be charged. Gas prices are rapidly becoming more expensive therefore, the Cybertruck really should be a serious consideration for those wanting a new truck.

This truck new isn’t badly priced either. The single-motor starts at just over $40,000 which isn’t too bad considering a standard Model 3 is $5000 less. The top Tri-Motor is over $70,000 which is good value considering how much performance and towing capabilities it offers. There is also a $100 refundable deposit needed for any Cybertruck.

This truck does not need to be refueled all the time, so you easily save on the ever-increasing gas prices. However, batteries are very expensive to repair and replace so do not expect cheap long-term maintenance costs. Tesla does offer a warranty though but even that has strict conditions on what it will cover. Further still, if you do want the Cybertruck to be colored then you will have to pay for a vinyl wrap yourself, which can be very very costly!

In Conclusion

The Cybertruck may have its faults, but it also pushes the competition right out of the window. Yes, it may look like a house-on-wheels but ultimately that is done for aerodynamics. It can tow a lot which is key for truck owners, and it is also very fast. The body is strong and dents won’t really be an issue. It may look like a spaceship rather than a truck, but this thing really is impressive.

Of course, most people who order this at first may not want to use the Cybertruck the way a truck is intended to be used. They may just order it because it looks cool. However, for those wanting a solid truck that can handle a lot then the Cybertruck is a spectacular choice of vehicle.
