Rimac To Build Another Electric Hypercar

Rimac reveals the Nevera, a 1,900-horsepower electric hypercar - The Verge

Rimac is set to launch another all-new electric hypercar very soon called the Nivera. A rebadged C Two, Rimac claims that the new hypercar hits 60 in just 1.85 seconds, which is a world record. It has 1914hp and 1696 lb-ft of torque. Absolutely insane and all of it is handcrafted in Croatia.

Rimac over the years has had massive media attention. This is mainly from their cars and the blistering performance that they offer. The original Rimac Concept One could easily beat cars like the LaFerrari, the Buggati Veyron, the Porsche 918, etc. That car was the first electric hypercar ever made and it was absolutely ballistic. Eight were made, but one was crashed by Richard Hammond during an episode of the Grand Tour.

After production of the Concept One ended in 2014, a successor was announced. It was originally called Concept Two, but most recently it has been renamed Nevera. It was launched back in 2018 and production will start this year with 150 models expected to be built. The whole car weighs just under two tonnes which is pretty good for an electric car. This is thanks to its carbon fiber body.

The Nevera is set to be put up against cars like the Lotus Evija and also the Pininfarina Battista. The Batista is closely related to the Nevera since both cars share the same battery pack. Therefore, performance between the two will be very similar indeed. Other cars the Nevera could rival are the new Tesla Roadster and the new Aspark Owl, both of which are expected to have a ballistic 0-60 time.

Could this be a new era for Rimac? They’ve grown massively over the years and it seems like this car could be the car to break the ice and get them properly into the supercar scene. Furthermore, there have been recent talks that the Rimac brand could take over Lamborghini and Bugatti. If that does happen, expect a new future for both brands.

Is The Rimac Nevera Really Going To Intrest Petrolheads?

Petrolheads are a hard bunch to impress. Many are still against the electric car, despite the speed and acceleration that they offer. The Rimac Nevera is a car for car enthusiasts, and it does tick most boxes. It’s fast, it looks amazing, it handles well and they’re priced at crazy money. It’s $2.4 million which makes this hypercar a dream machine.

Inside, it looks incredible. Definitely justifies the price tag. It’s very futuristic and driver-focused with dihedral doors which really emphasizes that cockpit feel. Furthermore, when you open the car you can see the carbon fiber weave from the tub. It looks so high-quality and the trim that surrounds it looks expensive. The leather looks natural and the pedals look like they are milled from a single aluminum block. It certainly does give the Pagani Huayra a run for its money. You just wouldn’t expect this sort of detail or organization within the interior from such a small company.

It then has four motors, with one being assigned to each wheel. This makes the Nevera an AWD car which helps massively with traction. Speaking of traction, the R-AWTV system onboard ensures power is available whenever you need it. No lag. Nothing. It does this by calculating the amount of torque needed on each wheel 100 times per second. This car is probably smarter than the computers Nasa use. This means that if one wheel is losing grip, the system can reduce the torque in that wheel in order to help handling.

When it comes to aerodynamics, Rimac certainly knows what they’re doing. The whole car is packed with what they call “Active Elements.” These include a rear wing, a diffuser, a hood profile, and an underbody flap. This means that the car produces a 0.3 drag coefficient when it is in low-drag mode. This helps massively with range, acceleration, and handling. To top it all off, the car is wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S, which are very sticky tires indeed.

The only issue with the Nevera is noise. There isn’t any really. This is the main concern which most petrol heads have as it really decreases the experience and soul of the car. You can have a slow car but if it sounds good, it will instantly set the hearts of petrolheads on fire. Nevertheless, the performance of the Nevera is sure to impress them.

Will The Rimac Nevera Change Supercars Forever?

Will the Rimac Nevera change supercars forever? Well, it’s quite obvious that Rimac has changed cars forever and they will continue to do so for the next few decades. But has the Nevera changed much?

Well, it’s a little early to say. However, if we take a look back on the Concept One it proved to the world that electric cars could be seriously cool and seriously fast machines. Back then, in 2013 most electric cars were slow, so when this came out it was a massive step forward for electric cars.

The Nevera comes out in a time whereby the new Model S Plaid Tesla does a 0-60 of just under 2 seconds. Things have changed massively since the Concept One came out. The Nevera does put other hypercars to test quite easily, and it does have a few competitors. However, I do feel that all supercar manufacturers know that electricity is the way forwards. Porsche and Audi will probably launch an electric supercar very soon.

Some of the more traditional supercar manufacturers like Mclaren, Lamborghini, and Ferrari may take a bit more persuasion and time to switch to electric power. Rimac will probably keep reassuring the trio to and they easily could since Rimac’s battery packs are on offer to any company that needs them.

The Nevera will change the Rimac brand just like the concept One did. It will get people talking and now that there’s competition, it will increase the hype around electric supercars. It also means though, that Rimac needs to pull their socks up in order to stay at the top. They have to keep innovating and pushing forwards if they really want to be part of the supercar mainstream.
