Lamborghini has just released the new facelift version of the Urus called the Urus S. It arrives just a few weeks after the launch of the new Performante Urus which has sold like hotcakes at launch events. In fact, Lamborghini is somewhat reluctant to take partial deposits for that car as demand is ridiculously high. Maybe the Urus S arrives at a good time as it could delegate some Performante customers to the new facelift model. Or could it? Most likely, these same Perfroamnte customers will order an S too.
The Urus S arrives four years after the original Urus was unveiled to the world, and what a car that has been for Lamborghini. With over 20,000 units sold, it is by far the best-selling Lamborghini of all time, and most Urus models sold are stacked with tons of optional extras by their owners. It is not uncommon to see a Urus with $50,000 worth of optional extras on there, which just shows how profitable this car is for Lamborghini. Furthermore, many Urus customers have taken advantage of the Ad Personam personalization scheme whereby customers can choose their own paints, leather choices, and more.
However, ever since the Urus’ arrival, many other exotic car companies have tried to take the super SUV crown away from Lamborghini. Most have failed, but with Ferrari just launching their new super SUV, Lamborghini will have to pull up their socks a little since that car has had an amazing reception despite the fact it is considerably more expensive in comparison to a Urus. So is the new Urus S a genuine improvement over the outgoing car? Or will the Urus lose its super SUV crown to cars like the new Ferrari Purosangue SUV? Let’s find out.

It Will Sit Alongside The Urus Performante As an “Entry Level” Car
The Urus S will sit alongside the Urus Performante as an “entry-level” model. However, do not expect entry-level prices since the new Urus S will start at $229,490 which is a lot of money. However, the Performante Urus starts at $260,000 which is a whole $30,000 for than the S.
Engine-wise, the S and the Performante share the same 4.0 twin-turbo V8 which pushes out 657hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. The 0-60 time is 3.5 seconds which is a whole 0.1 seconds faster than the old Urus, but the top speed remains the same as the old Urus at 190 mph. Not too bad at all for a large five-seater SUV.
You’re probably thinking then, why is there a whole $30,000 difference between the Urus Performante and Urus S models when both produce the same power, have the same engine, make the same noise, etc? Well, the Urus S is a softer version of the urus Performante.
The Urus Performante has been designed to be quite hardcore and outlandish whilst the S has been designed to be more luxurious and understated. Well, luxurious and understated in a Lamborghini way. The Urus S still gets a load of aggressive lines, huge wheels, and even hood vents now. You can even opt for a carbon fiber roof which is definitely subtle and won’t attract any attention whatsoever.
You don’t get some of the Performante’s aerodynamics on the Urus S like the splitter, rear roof spoiler, alloys, and carbon fiber hood. However, everything else you do get. Furthermore, Lamborghini does offer bold colors anyways for the S so really an understated Lamborghini doesn’t make much sense at all. How can a Lamborghini be subtle? How can it not attract attention everywhere it goes?
For most people, the Urus S and Urus Performante won’t make much sense. Unlike a normal Huracan Evo and a Huracan Performante, where the differences are there between the two cars to justify the price differences, the Urus S and Urus Performante are so similar to each other that the Urus S makes the Performante seem pointless. Or does it?
The Urus Performante isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, and in order for Lamborghini to cater to these customers who could go off to other brands if they don’t, they made the Urus S. It’s softer but just as powerful which means it can be used much more as an everyday car. However, for others, the Urus S will be seen as too soft and not exciting enough. This is where the Performante comes in.
Urus owners will understand the differences between the Urus Performante and Urus S and in all honesty, they’re the only people who will need to since they are the ones who can afford to buy one of these cars.
