The New Range Rover Sport Is Here. Should You Buy One?

Land Rover has just launched the long-awaited new Range Rover Sport. The Sport is Land Rover’s second best-selling car, and it is loved worldwide by many different people. The previous Sport was launched back in 2013, and it was an absolute success. It made the Range Rover  Sport “Sporty” because the first-generation car was just far too heavy and also slow.

The new Sport is based on a similar platform to the new full-fat Range Rover. There are also new engine choices with the Supercharged 5 liter and 2-liter turbo 4-cylinder unit being committed from the engine lineup. The new Sport is more of an evolution rather than a revolution since it looks more so like the old car rather than something completely new.

Compared to the current full-fat Range Rover, the Sport has stiffer and lower suspension which helps improve handling. The Sport also has the option to have all-wheel steering, torque vectoring, Dynamic Air Suspension, and more. There is even adaptive cruise control that has a mode for off-road.

There are also no seven-seat versions of the Sport anymore. The reason why is because the previous generation Sport had that option, and it was terrible. Land Rover state that if you’re after a Sport, a family-friendly third-row probably isn’t one of your probabilities.

Questionable Looks.

The Sport has very questionable looks. the front of it just has far too many grilles. The previous Sport had a larger grille but the newer car has three grilles that make the car look like it has a double chin. The headlights are also somewhat aggressive and it’s all quite smooth which helps with airflow. It’s definitely more aerodynamic than the old car.

Then there is the side profile, which looks very similar to the old Sport. The only difference is that the new Sport has electric door handles, and the lines and detail are very smooth which helps with aerodynamics. It’s quite modern and very recognizable. It defiantly does look better than the side profile on the previous second-generation car.

The rear of the car isn’t the best. It’s very bare and it does look a little like a baboon’s bottom. The Range Rover badge is housed in the light section which is black and that makes everything look a little awkward. The exhaust trim looks pretty cool though, despite the fact that they are fake. The badges on the rear of the car ruin it. De-badged the car will look a whole lot better, but with them on it just makes everything look a whole lot less organized.

Overall, the design is quite modern though I do prefer some aspects of the old Sport. It is more of an evolution rather than a revolution. Compared to its rivals, the Sport still looks very aggressive and quite modern. It’s not as good as the new full-fat Range Rover though which does look pretty special.

A Great Interior

The interior of the Sport looks amazing. Far better than the exterior and on a different planet than the old Sport. It is very similar to the new full-fat Range Rover. Inside, the build quality is amazing. There is a 13.1-inch curved touchscreen in the center of the dash that uses Land Rover’s new Pivi Pro system. The graphics are crystal clear, and both Apple Carplay and Android Auto are available as well as Amazon Alexa.

The interior is inspired by the cockpit of an aircraft, which is why the driver gets a greater focus on the controls. That’s why the paddle shifters and driver gear selector are finished on chrome. To give the interior a more of a “drivers car” feel. The steering wheel itself is quite thick and very complex. It has a load of controls that can control the car including touch buttons, dials, etc. Behind the steering wheel is a 13.7-inch huge driver display that fits in nicely on the dash and it looks awesome. The graphics are crystal clear and it makes the car feel a whole lot more modern.

The climate control area still keeps actual knobs which makes things a hell of a lot easier. It’s very elegant indeed especially since they are finished in chrome which contrasts the interior nicely. Beneath that are the gear selector and off-road modes which are again all knobs and buttons.

The seats are very comfortable and they come as standard in leather. However, if you are a bit of an environmentalist and you want to part way with more cash, you can choose to have your interior finished in a leather alternative made from Polyurethane. It’s a lot grippier, breathable, and most importantly environmentally friendly.

Overall, it is an interior that sure surpasses its rivals. The Sport will make you feel special and that you’ve achieved something in life. This is Land Rover taking luxury and sportiness to the next level and it sure has worked very well.

The new Range Rover Sport is quite an amazing car. It looks very modern inside and out and is based on the already very good new Range Rover, it sure will be a great car to drive. Engine choices are all very powerful and there sure is something for everyone. Whether you want an economical 3-liter diesel model or a more powerful 4.4 BMW-derived twin-turbo V8.

The prices start at just under £80,000 which in the US is almost $100,000. That is a lot of money though, I don’t believe that many existing Sport owners will be too bothered to pay that since you do have to be quite wealthy to own a car like this anyways. The Sport has hybrid options available too, though in 2024 there will be an all-electric version.

It is an exciting car and I can’t wait to see the new SVR model which I believe will have over 600hp and that twin-turbo BMW V8 under the hood. That car will be a real issue in the super SUV world and it may even rival the likes of Lamborghini with their Urus or Porsche’s Cayenne Turbo.
