At this moment in time, there are many luxury brands on the market. You have BMW, Mercedes, Cadillac, Lincoln, Jaguar, Acura, and Lexus. You may think there is more than enough luxury brands, why would we need any more? Well, Hyundai doesn’t think that whatsoever hence why in 2015 they created their all-new Genesis luxury sub-division brand. Previously, the Genesis was a luxury model of the Hyundai range with the Genesis Coupe and the Hyundai Genesis sedan. But in 2015 Hyundai decided to make the Genesis brand completely separate from the Hyundai name and they did that by giving the Genesis brand its own identity.
The new brand’s first car was the incredible G90 in 2015. It replaced the aging Hyundai Equus full-size luxury sedan. The G90 rivals the likes of the Mercedes S-Class and Lexus LS. It was built to the highest standards since Hyundai wanted to give a positive first impression of their new luxury division to its consumers. Hyundai was never a luxury brand and despite the company making a few luxury sedans as SUVs prior to the Genesis brand, they were mostly considered as a budget brand.
The G90 had a real presence to it. The facelift model included a huge grille and big alloys. It is very reminiscent of the Bentley Mulsanne and the 2020 Flying Spur. Inside too it is beautiful with its soft-touch materials and its bucket loads of technology. It is a luxury jet on wheels. The rear seats are where it’s at as it feels like a Rolls Royce. The MSRP is also $72,950 which may sound like a lot but let’s face it. This car feels a lot more expensive than it actually is.
The next new car was a very important one for Genesis. The G80 was based on the previous Hyundai Genesis. It looked sportier and it was there to rival the likes of the BMW 5-series. The G80 though still had gaps missing in terms of luxury and quality but Hyundai did address this with the new 2020 G80.
Then Hyundai brought out one of their top cars. The USA car of the year 2019, the G70. The 3-series rival was a car that changed the outlook of Genesis. It was sporty and it looked really classy. Inside it looks amazing and feels so much more luxurious compared to its rivals. The materials are very soft-touch and it feels way more expensive than it actually is. Prices start at $36,000 which is almost $4000 less than the latest BMW 3-series.
Hyundai then recently brought out the GV80 and GV70 SUVs. They’re rivals for the like of the GLC Mercedes, BMW X5, and Audi Q7.
What Is So Good About a Genesis?
via: motor1.com
What is so good about a Genesis? This new brand taking the premium luxury sector by storm and their cars are winning awards left, right, and center. Reviewers are loving these cars and the sales keep on climbing. They are even set to launch their cars in Europe next year. Hyundai has taken a lot of pride in making these cars by choosing carefully what materials they put in their cars as well as the interior and exterior design.
Hyundai is now a multi-billion-dollar company that owns stakes in fellow rival Kia. They have a huge parts bin of engines, chassis, interior parts, etc. Therefore, Hyundai decided that their Genesis G70 model should be based on the brilliant Kia Stinger, which is a sporty sedan. Then Hyundai wanted Genesis cars to not only drive well but they wanted them to look good and feel good. The G70 looks extremely sporty and it was designed by Peter Schreyer who helped design the first-generation Audi TT. The latest G80 was designed by Luc Donckerwolke who was the ex-design director at the VW Audi group. He designed the Lamborghini Murcielago, Audi A2, Bentley FDlying Spur, and the mk1 Skoda Octavia.
Genesis cars then are designed by the top dogs in the business. The best car designers out there. Hyundai did not once cut any costs with designing their luxury vehicles by Genesis. It’s obvious if you look at their interior and exterior. The leather is quilted, the buttons and dials are knurled and metal. What does knurled mean? If you take a look at the metal dials or buttons of a Bentley you see that they are patterned. The metal has a certain luxurious texture and it feels expensive. The Genesis cars have these and it’s all the rage with other luxury cars from Lexus and BMW.
Then the wood feels and looks expensive. The natural look makes these cars feel so much more expensive than they actually are. We really love the interior of the latest G80 and its huge 14.5-inch landscape touchscreen. Even the digital dials were finished in royal gold color. The stitching on the leather too felt so luxurious and it looks amazing. Everything about the G80 is luxurious and it completely kills the likes of the BMW 5-series and the Audi A6.
What’s better is that the G80 is just an executive sedan. It isn’t the flagship car yet it feels so luxurious. The upcoming new legendary G90 will be something special. It probably will beat the quality and design of most luxury cars. Hyundai knows they have a tough ride within the market as they have rivals everywhere with the Genesis brand.
The Genesis brand in order to get success, the Genesis cars couldn’t just be on the same level as the German cars. They had to be better. Feel more luxurious. This is why originally the original Hyundai Genesis failed in Europe as it could not match its German rivals. Even the American Equus and Genesis models could not match the quality or the feeling of these German cars. There was always something missing and they felt like foreigners. Unusual. Not your first choice. Nowadays though the latest Genesis cars are really becoming a no-brainer to purchase.
Are Genesis Cars Worth It?

Yes, they are. They may not be as prestigious as BMW yet but they still hold a presence. Because they are still a relatively new brand their cars are cheaper than the mainstream luxury brands but because Genesis is still in the stages of making a top-notch impression, their cars are far more luxurious. They offer so much more for the money than other cars do. The feeling you get in them is that these cars feel luxurious. They’re a joy to be in and it’s not like these cars are slouches and wishy-washy to drive because these cars are made by Hyundai. Wait, Hyundai? The same company who made the woeful Pony and Amica? Yes, and they’re WRC champions who currently make the brilliant I30 N hot-hatchback.
The drive of these cars is brilliant. They feel so good to dive and it’s like your driving on air. Yet the G70 model still feels quite sporty and the reason why is because it rivals the like of the BMW 3-series and Lexus IS two very sporty sedans.
Genesis has put their weight more towards the young. Why? Because who wants to buy an old-mans car? Even an old-man does not want a car targeted at the elderly. Therefore, targeting a car towards the young makes everyone interested as it feels more modern and frsh. That was the issue with the previous Genesis and Equus, they were too targeted to the elderly hence why they lacked personality
